Applications of Optics
I have experience with optical components, assemblies and
instruments for various applications. Each has its own
particular requirements and I've learned something from each that I
can bring to the others.
Scientific
Ion and dye lasers, fusion lasers, etalons, Lyot filters, Fresnel
and Mooney rhombs, multiple wavelength and achromatic waveplates,
prisms, photo-elastic modulators, non-imaging concentrators, imaging
optics, cryogenic assemblies, infrared and ultraviolet optics.
Medical
Immersed lenses, dichroic filters, infrared and ultraviolet optics.
Telecom
DWDM etalons, micro-waveplates, multiple port prism assemblies,
instruments for measuring retardance and free spectral range.
Metrology
Components for distance-measuring interferometers, instruments to
measure retardation, extinction and free spectral range, etalons,
frequency standards. A whole bag of little-known tricks and techniques
for optical shop measurement.
Astronomy
Massive aspheric mirrors, high finesse etalons, null testing,
Hartmann testing, Shack and Smartt and Saunders interferometers,
whiffletree mounting.
Industrial
Scanners, FLIR, high power CW and Q-switched optics, water-cooled
and gas-cooled, heat-sinks and beam dumps, in Cu, Mo, Si, Ge, ZnSe,
GaAs, CaF2, SiO2, Al2O3,
gain media in rod and slab form, and aspherics including
off-axis. |
